Never heard of Luang Prabang? We, too, had been ignorant of this riverside gem until a mere few months ago researching what to do after the slow boat. But, it has since become one of our favorite places we have ever visited.

It boasts charming Old French architecture, an abundance of delicious street food, clean streets, breathtaking scenery, and the opportunity for fantastic cycling. Initially, we had planned only a two-night stay, but so enamored were we with this UNESCO-protected town that we ended up extending our stay to a leisurely five nights and upgrading to riverfront accommodation.

We took things at a slow pace: savoring the ambiance of the several coffee shops in town, indulging in gym workouts, renting bikes to take in the sights outside of town, and devouring our way through the night food market.

In addition to the many delights the town had to offer, we would be remiss not to mention the superb accommodations we found at Moonlight Champa Riverview for less than $50 per night.

We cannot recommend highly enough that you add Luang Prabang to your itinerary the next time you find yourself in Southeast Asia. It is a hidden treasure that should not be missed nor rushed.
