We first visited Chiang Mai during our first travels abroad a decade ago; since the moment we left, we had been looking forward to returning. We spent about a week in Chiang Mai, continuing with our number one priority of street food. We also filled the time with a hike up to [temple name], a tour of an ethical elephant sanctuary, and bar hopping between the sleek college town bars and the backpacker scene. It was a fantastic treat to have our friends along to explore with us.

We quickly fell into a rhythm of morning coffee runs, gym sessions, and smoothie bowl breakfasts. The evenings always consisted of night market crawls. We celebrated New Year's in Chiang Mai at a black light beer pong bar, an open-air DJ set, and watching thousands of lanterns take to the sky. Mostly take to the sky. A fair share were caught in trees. Kelsey might have panicked a bit.

Chiang Mai remains one of our favorite cities & we cannot strongly suggest enough if you're in Thailand to include at least a few days for the north.
