Gili Air is a carless & scooterless island. To Kelsey's delight, it was also a cat-only island; every business had at least one friendly cat waiting for pets. The heat was much more manageable as the slight ocean breeze provided much-needed respite. It was an amazing reprieve from Bali.

We had a shockingly smooth ferry ride to Gili Air & then a short 20-minute walk to our hotel. Breaking up the commute, we stopped in for lunch and learned we actually are fond of Indonesian food, just not of it in Bali; same dishes, 10x the flavor. Kyle was a big fan that nearly every restaurant served their rendition of an Indonesian burrito. This island reminded us of a quieter combination of Caye Caulker & Koh Lipe.

We continued our routine of hitting the gym & going on runs, both much more enjoyable experiences in Gili A. We ate our included breakfast of waffles & fruit every morning and got an excellent, albeit expensive, flat white at the cafe next door. We enjoyed nightly strolls around the beach, where the marked road was just a maintained sandy beach path. During the day, we'd post up at varying adorable cafes & beachfront restaurants and live the slow life. Kelsey made best friends with a cat who would wait outside our room in the mornings & at night for pets. On the occasion Kyle would leave the room first or, worse, without Kelsey during these intervals, the cat would be quite annoyed. There was also an insanely large long haired baby who belonged to the dive shop out front that appreciated a short pet in passing.
