It was finally time to hit the Sri Lanka beaches! We started in the primary southern hub to get a lay of the land before parking for a longer stay in one of the nearby towns. We were also in Weligama for Kyle's birthday! We stayed in a cute hostel across from the surf schools with the most kitschy room possible; an old fishing boat turned bed + desk combo. The hostel had an entire yoga floor with beach views and a rooftop restaurant with delicious if a bit pricey, food, coffees, and smoothies.

Kelsey's accomplishment was upgrading to a hardboard for surfing with minimal wipeouts in the transition.

For Kyle's birthday, we had some great Kotu and posted up at a bar we had scouted the evening before. We indulged in some tasty gin cocktails, a Sri Lanka specialty, and a very official hookah experience involving a Russian hookah-tender. He was incredibly friendly & we had a great conversation while he took breaks here and there throughout the night to hang out. Not believing Kelsey's lack of Slavic roots, he swung by a second time to go through her genealogy. Sri Lanka, especially the coast, is mostly Russian tourists. The bar also had a tiny baby kitten that everyone was obsessed with. Kelsey was lucky to get a couple of snuggles while the kitten wandered from obsessed patron to patron.
