After Costa Rica, we made our way to Antigua, Guatemala. Antigua was previously the capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala which included what is modern-day Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and part of Mexico. We wandered the streets and enjoyed the Spanish Baroque-influenced architecture.

The main attraction was a hike to the top of Acatengo Volcano to see the Fuego Volcano erupt. This was a 12-mile hike to an elevation of 13000+ ft. We camped overnight and were fortunate to have a clear night with amazing views of the volcano erupting every 30 minutes. The sight of this was an experience like none other and the sound was like hearing the loudest thunder we've ever heard.

Antigua had amazing coffee shops, great food, and wine shops where each subsequent glass was a bit cheaper than the last :)
